Bethune Cookman University (BCU) is a private not-for-profit university. In 1904, Mary McLeod Bethune began the Daytona Literary and Industrial Training School with an investment of $1.50 and five little girls. Later with the school underwent several stages of growth and development. In 1931, the school was renamed to Bethune-Cookman College to indicate the effectiveness of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune’s leadership.

The university strives to define a new standard in academic excellence in order to become the best small college in the southern region. Its core values are represented as F.I.R.S.T which refers to Faith, Integrity, Respect, Service, and Thirst For Knowledge.
