Eastern Gateway Community College is a public junior college with its main campus in Steubenville, Ohio, and another campus in Youngstown. It later changed its name to Jefferson Technical College in 1977. In 1995, the technical college became a junior college and therefore the name changed another time to Jefferson junior college. In 2009, the school expanded its service district to incorporate three Ohio counties additionally to the first Jefferson: Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull. This resulted during a further name change and therefore the college became referred to as Eastern Gateway Community College in October 2009.

Eastern Gateway Community College briefly drew national attention in 2020 when its board of trustees fired the college's president. The college states that it "embraces an open-door admissions policy." Applications are available on the college's website. Eastern Gateway Community College offers placement testing for newly enrolled students to place them in what they feel are appropriate classes.
