Earn A Bachelor’s Degree In Mechanical Engineering

According to BLS, a Bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement to get an entry-level job in this field. Employers prefer a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering accredited from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). However, students also have the option to choose a two-year pre-engineering degree. They can work as a mechanical drafter. Later they can also transfer to a 4-year program to finish engineering.

Get An Engineering Licence

In the United States, if you want to offer engineering services directly to the public, you have to obtain a state license. You can apply for the license after completing your bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited program. To become licensed first you have to qualify Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam conducted by National Council of Examiners for Surveying and then you have to work for 4 years under the supervision of a professional Engineer. The final step in obtaining a license is to qualify Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. After qualifying these exam students becomes Professional Engineers (PEs).
