In 1876, the Johns Hopkins University was established. The John Hopkins University was the first university dedicated to the advanced study and scientific research. In teaching, research and community service the university continues to be a leader. The university receives the highest research and development funds from the federal government. The trustees of Johns Hopkins University voted to establish a new business school on December 4, 2006, which will be dedicated to producing innovative leaders with broad and interdisciplinary knowledge. The Carey Business School opened its doors on January 1, 2007. The first president of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School was Daniel Coit Gilman who believed that teaching and research are interdependent and that success in one depends on other. According to him, a modern University must do well in both teaching and research. The first research university in America was Johns Hopkins University. The Johns Hopkins-trained scholars revolutionized higher education in America. Through their own initiatives, innovations and collaborative programs, the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School support business knowledge development and education across the Johns Hopkins University.

Timeline of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School

1916-1917

The university started offering evening courses in Business Economics.

1926-1927

A business fraternity known as Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma PI Moved to Hopkins during the fall semester of 1926 from the University of Maryland School of Business Administration.

1953

The Department of Business AEconomics was removed from the university.

1961-1962

Master of Science in Management Science was introduced during the fall semester.

1964-1965

The college was divided into five divisions namely Administration and Business; Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Physical Science; Education and special programs.

1971-1972

During the fall semester, students started enrolling in the new graduate degree named Master of Administration Science.

1984-1985

Evening sessions and the summer session was renamed to School of Continuing Studies.

1988

Hokins Master of Administration Science was ranked third best regionally accredited the business program in the eastern United States by U.S News and World Report.

1991-1992

Master of Administration Science was replaced by Master of Science in Business degree.

1999-2000

The university replaced Master of Business Science with Master of Business Administration during the fall semester of 1999.

July 1, 1999

The School of Continuing Studies was renamed to School of Professional Studies in Business and Education.

2000

Master of Science in Finance was launched by School of Professional Studies in Business and Education.

2004-2005

Edward St. John's generous gift established Edward St. John Real Estate program and the establishment of a full-time Master of Science in Real Estate degree.

December 5, 2006

William Polk Carey, a notable philanthropist announced a gift of $50 million through his W.P. Carey Foundation to John Hopkins to establish the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School

January 1, 2007

School of Professional Studies in Business and Education was separated into two new schools namely the Carey Business School and the School of Education.

2008

Yash Gupta became the first dean of Johns Hopkins Carey Business School

August 2015

The school expands flexible MBA degree program with the addition of online course

2017

Johns Hopkins Carey Business School earned initial accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
