Mid-Atlantic Christian University is a private not-for-profit institution situated in Elizabeth City and was established in the year 1948. Mid-Atlantic Christian University was initially started as the Roanoke Bible College in the year 1948 by George and Sarah BonDuran.

In 2009 MACU officially changed its name to Mid-Atlantic Christian University. The mission of the university is to impact the world by transforming ordinary people into extraordinary Christian leaders.
