What is the National Council for Accreditation for Teacher Education?

National Council for Accreditation for Teacher Education was founded and established in the year 1954 and is also known as NCATE.

This commission is for accrediting teacher certification programs in colleges/universities in the United States.

NCATE is a council of educators. It is not a regional accreditation, unlike others. It is only specific to a teacher’s education. This accreditation is for the programs offered for teaching and learning.

The NCATE has five foundings, namely: 

  • AACTE- The American Association for Teacher Education

  • NEA- The National Education Association

  • NSBA-The National School Boards Association

  • NASDTEC-The National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification.

  • CCSSO- The Council of Chief State School Officers.

  • Educational Resources - All the needful resources should be availed in an institution.

  • Financial Capacity - The funding status and financial support should be strong.

  • Administration - An institution should have a good administration who can manage all the resources.
