About the Scholarship
The students intending to pursue a professional education in an MLS degree and work in librarianship of children are provided financial assistance by the American Library Association which is sponsored by the Melcher Scholarship Fund.
The ALSC Frederic G. Melcher Scholarship program, administered by the Association for Library Service to Children, is available to students who is determined to work with children in any type of library.
The scholarship program is awarded to students based on their academic and extracurricular achievements, leadership qualities and participation in community service.
ALSC Frederic G. Melcher Scholarship Awards
The scholarship program awards 2 eligible recipients an amount of $7,500 each per annum.
The scholarship amount will be given to the students in the beginning of the two semesters.
The recipients of the scholarship program are selected by the scholarship committee on the basis of certain eligibility criteria and the documents submitted along with the application form.

The applicants must go through the instructions and guidelines given by the association before applying for the scholarship programs.
The following documents must be included in the application:

A personal statement based on the career goals and interests of the applicant.
Three letters of references.
Official academic transcripts.
ALSC Frederic G. Melcher Scholarship Application Deadline
The completed applications must be submitted to the ALA Scholarship Clearinghouse prior to March 1st. Any applications received past the deadline or incomplete will be considered invalid.
The applicant must be pursuing an MLS degree.
The applicant must be planning to work in children's librarianship including the age of 14.
