About the Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded for the students in need by the South Dakota Board of Regents. The scholarship was established in the year 1989. The Annis I.F./Kaden Scholarship was created to honor Annis Fowler whose teaching career spanned over 50 years and to continue her commitment and love for educating.

The scholarship is awarded for freshmen attending South Dakota public universities and who choose elementary education as their major field. A consideration is given to applicants who have a disability or who are self-supporting.


How to apply for this scholarship?

  • An applicant first must fill-up the Fowler/Kaden Scholarship application form that can be found on the South Dakota Board of Regents' official website.

  • Along with the completed application form, submit an essay (1,000-1,500 words) on a topic that will be provided on the application, 2 recommendation letters, an official high school transcript and a copy of the applicant's GPA and ACT results.

  • All the above documents with essays and scoresheets must be mailed to the Board of Regents before the deadline.


How much the scholarship award amounts to?

The award amounts to $1,000 per year and is non-renewable and is offered per year.


Deadline Information

The deadline date that is set for an applicant to submit all the above-mentioned files is February 22, 2020.


Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must have a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA out of 4.

  • This is the scholarship for students from United States. A student applying for scholarship should be a legally recognized US citizen.

  • A student must intend to major in Elementary Education.
