About the Scholarship

Catholic College Essay Contest is authorized by The Cardinal Newman Society. The establishment was found in the year 1993 to advance and safeguard loyal Catholic training. The Society is a 501(c)(3) charge excluded, philanthropic association supported by people, organizations, and establishments. 

The challenge was available to secondary school seniors in the United States who took part in the Newman Society's Recruit Me program and utilized The Newman Guide, which prescribes devoted Catholic universities, in their school search.


What are the basic requirements needed while applying for this grant?

  • An essay contest will be conducted and the applicants must submit with 500-600 words.

  • High school students must sign up for our “Recruit Me” program.

  • use The Newman Guide (available online here) and in their college search, and plan to attend one of the institutions recommended in The Newman Guide.


Catholic College Essay Contest award amounts to

  • The winner of the Contest will be awarded $5,000 toward the cost of attending one of the faithful Catholic institutions recommended in The Newman Guide.

  • Therefore, the winner could be awarded $20,000 over four years.


Deadline info

The applications are to be submitted by the end of February 18, 2020. Students are informed to submit their scholarship application and other requirements are to be submitted before the due date. Applications and other information are available online on The Cardinal Newman Society website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be graduating high school in Spring 2019.

  • The applicant must be 20 years or younger as of May 1, 2019.

  • The applicant must be a legal resident of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia.
