About the Scholarship

The Deana's Wish Memorial Scholarship is established by the DLH Foundation in memory of Deana LaRae Hamilton Hughes. The program grants scholarships to college students who have affected by gastroesophageal cancers in their families. The DLH Foundation's purpose is to establish a community for families affected by Gastro-esophageal Cancers. 


How to Apply?

  • In order to apply for this award, an applicant must give a scholarship application form.

  • An applicant must provide the official transcript of school or college 

  • An applicant is also required to submit an essay which must be of one-page, single-spaced, including name and title.

  • A student must provide At least one letter of recommendation.

  • Letter from a medical doctor confirming the type of cancer and connection to the applicant

  • If applicable, an applicant must submit the death certificate of his or her cancer affected family member.

  • In addition to that, an applicant must submit a copy of FASFA to demonstrate the financial need.

  • Also, an applicant must write an essay on the topic "How your life has been affected by these cancers".


Award Amount and Deadline:

The Scholarship award amount is $2000 given to deserving candidates per academic year.

All applicants must complete and submit an application to the DLH Foundation by March 1, 2020.

 


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must have been diagnosed with, or have an immediate family member (spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling or child) who has been affected by esophageal or stomach cancer.

  • The applicant must be a citizen or an eligible noncitizen of the U.S.

  • The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

  • The applicant must have scored 1100 for the SAT.

  • The applicant must have an ACT score of 24.

  • The applicant must provide one or more letters of recommendations.
