About the Scholarship

This scholarship is established and is sponsored by the Women in Aviation, International. Scholarship awards are a major benefit of membership in WIA and help members to achieve their goals and advance into the aviation and aerospace careers.

To avail this scholarship award, a recipient must be currently enrolled in an aerospace/aeronautical, electrical, or mechanical engineering program in the U.S. Also, an applicant must stand out exceptional in academic performance by maintaining the cumulative GPA specified by financial aid.


What is the application procedure?

  • In order to apply for this scholarship, an applicant must complete the online application form which is available at WAI official website with all the necessary documents.

  • A student must submit two recommendation letters from his/her faculty members.

  • In addition to that, a student should also submit a typed, descriptive 500-word essay on the topic given by the financial department.

  • An applicant is also required to provide his/her professional resume.

  • Official document copies of all aviation and medical certificates and the last three pages of your pilot logbook must be provided.


Award Amount and Deadline Information

The scholarship award amounts to $5000 to one eligible candidate every academic year.

The scholarship deadline date is set 12th November, all applicants are required to submit the official transcripts and online scholarship application on or before the deadline date. Any application sent post-November will be rejected for that particular year.


Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate must be a college junior or senior with a minimum of two semesters remaining.

  • An applicant must be a full-time student residing in the United States or be a eligible non-US citizen.

  • He/she must be a member of Women in Aviation, International (WAI) by Nov. 1, and that membership must remain current through March. 

  • A recipient must be currently enrolled in an aerospace/aeronautical, electrical, or mechanical engineering program.

  • To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of 4.
