About the Scholarship

Friends of Volo Bog is a non-profit organization involved in encouraging citizen awareness of the local natural heritage of a Volo Bog State Natural Area. The program is dedicated to a state nature preserves and through preserving the same through special programs or the events. In order to receive this grant, The applicant should be planning to enter a career directly related to preserving the natural environment.


How to Apply?

  • The scholarship application form must be filled out entirely in order to apply for this scholarship.

  • At least one signed letter of recommendation from a faculty who is familiar with his/her goals and aptitude.

  • In addition to that, an applicant must type one-page 300 – 400 words essay addressing his/her motivation and goals for choosing environmental studies and/or natural science, ideas about environmental issues, and your related experiences and attributes which will help you to be successful.

  • An applicant must provide sealed official transcripts indicating his/her GPA or B average or higher which gives the academic performance.


Award Amount and Deadline:

The organization is funding $1000 to two eligible applicants.

The scholarship application must be postmarked by March 31st, 2019.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a high school senior enrolled in an accredited university or college for a course of study in environmental or natural science.

  • The applicant must be a university or college student planning to pursue an education in environmental or natural science at an accredited college or university.

  • An applicant must reside in Lake, McHenry, Kane, Cook, DuPage, Kendall, or Will County, attend a high school in one of these counties.

  • A student must have a minimum B average for the first three years and plan to attend an accredited college or university.

  • The applicant should be planning to enter a career directly related to preserving the natural environment.
