About the Scholarship

Ernie Davis Scholarship is administered and is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc

Ernie Davis Scholarship was started in the year 1989 with the motive to support student-athletes who share the same traits and values of Ernie Davis and his high school coach, Marty Harrigan.


Application Procedure

  • The students must submit an essay as described on the application form.

  • The students are asked either to develop a project to spread the word about Ernie Davis's legacy or to volunteer for 44 hours while spreading the word.

  • The understudies applying for this award must present a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application.

  • Candidates must demonstrate their financial need.


Scholarship Award Amount

  • This scholarship award ranges from $10000 to $15000 each year which is non-renewable.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship varies annually based on the students meeting their requirements.


Deadline Information

All the applications and documents are to be presented to the financial aid department of the organization on or before the end of April 04, 2020. Students are advised to keep track of the deadline and submit the necessary documents. Any form submitted post-April will be disqualified.



Eligibility Criteria

  • The scholarship is awarded to a candidate who exhibits qualities of integrity, leadership, courage, and humility, which were exemplified by Ernie Davis during his life, and who effectively "spreads the word" about Ernie.

  • Candidates must be graduating from an accredited high school in Chemung County, or a high school in Corning (Steuben County), New York.

  • The candidate must be an exceptional, responsible and concerned citizen of his/her high school and community.
