About the Scholarship

The students who are dependent on those who got killed or disabled during the terrorist attacks on September 11th and rescue activities are awarded financial assistance in the form of scholarship programs by the Scholarship America organization.

The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund program provides support to students who are children or spouses who are facing financial troubles.

The students are given an opportunity to pursue postsecondary undergraduate education without having to face financial obstacles and get a career to support themselves.

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund Awards

  • The scholarship amount and the number of awards available vary every year depending on the funding of the organization and the number of applicants.

  • The applicants are given two types of scholarship opportunities on the basis of the degree level of the student.

  • The scholarship amount is used to pay the tuition and fees and other college costs.

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund Application

  • The recipients of the scholarship program are selected by the awarding committee of Scholarships America based on the eligibility criteria.

  • Students who are enrolled for full-time or half-time undergraduate degree programs, certain graduate degree programs, and certificate programs are eligible to apply for the scholarship program.

  • The applicant must complete the student application form available on the official website of the organization.

  • A copy of 1 and 2 pages of IRS Tax Form 1040 that is filed recently.

  • College or high school transcripts of grades.

  • The Social Security Disability Benefits from the Social Security Administration must be submitted if the applicant or parent is disabled.

Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund Application Deadline

The application must be sent to the organization via mail by May 15th without fail. Any application received past the deadline or incomplete applications will be considered invalid.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be born before 30th September 2008.

  • The applicant should be a spouse, dependent or a domestic partner of the 9/11 victim.

  • The applicant must be enrolled in a postsecondary study program by the age of 24.

  • The applicant should be born after 11th September 2001.
