About the Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded by the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The Program has fostered bilateral relationships and operates in more than 140 countries worldwide.

This fellowship grant provides opportunities for selected candidates to participate in an academic year of storytelling on a globally significant theme. The storytelling tools doesn't have to be limited to text but can also include photographs, videos, audio/podcasts, and graphic illustrations.

The storytelling grant candidates will receive relevant training by National Geographic staff on storytelling techniques, blog writing, video production, photography, and public speaking. Candidates from all fields are encouraged to apply.


How to apply for this scholarship?

  • Interested applicants should complete the Fulbright Study Application which is available on the official website with all the necessary documents required for the application.

  • Along with the application, a storytelling proposal, a storytelling narrative should be submitted for the valuation.

  • Academic transcripts and recommendation letters should also be submitted before the deadline date to demonstrate a student's academic excellence.

  • A proven experience in storytelling will be an added advantage for the scholarship.


What is the scholarship award amount?

  • The award covers transportation costs to and from the host countries.

  • It provides a stipend to cover costs related to tuition, research, books, and orientations.

  • It covers incidental costs, based on the cost of living in the host country.

  • It also provides health benefits and covers all other educational expenses.


Deadline Information

All the above-mentioned documents must be sent to the concerned department no later than October 8 to be eligible for the scholarship.

Any delay in the submission of the application will be disqualified.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a legally recognized citizen of the United States.

  • He/she must have an academic and professional background in storytelling.

  • Must be holding a bachelor's degree at the time of application.
