About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the Georgia Student Finance Commission, an organization that has become one of the most successful state student aid operations in the nation. They provide grants, service cancelable loans, and free financial aid consultation. Their main mission is to ensure Georgians have an opportunity to access education beyond high school. This grant HERO (Helping Educate Reservists and their Offspring) is a state program established to provide scholarship assistance to members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reservists who served in combat zones, and the children and the spouses of such members of the Georgia National Guard and U.S. Military Reserves.
How to apply for the scholarship?
The applicants should complete the application which can be found on the Georgia Student Finance Commission site.
Along with the application, the applicant should submit a legal guardianship document if the child of the eligible military member, legal proof of marriage if a spouse of the eligible military member, proof of disability if the eligible military member is disabled, copy of death certificate if the eligible military member is deceased.
How much the scholarship award amounts to?
The award amounts up to $2,000 annually.
The number of awards offered varies each year.
An applicant must be enrolled or accepted for admission in an eligible Georgia college or university.
Applicants must meet Georgia residency requirements, as defined by GSFA.
A student must meet U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien requirements, as defined by GSFA.
