About the Scholarship

The state of Georgia offers 42 scholarships per year to Georgia high school seniors who attend the University of North Georgia and commission as officers in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduating with bachelor's degrees. The scholarship award can be used to pay room, meals, tuition, books, uniforms, and fees. Recipients must maintain eligibility for the scholarship during the four years at UNG by maintaining full-time enrollment status, maintaining required academic standards, participating fully in the ROTC program, maintaining membership in the Georgia Army National Guard, and demonstrating any required qualities as determined by his/her officer.

How to Apply?

  • Applications are available online from the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) website.

  • The student must complete the questions in Section A of the application and write a one-page essay in Section B of the application that states why he/she believes he/she is deserving of this scholarship and discussing his/her educational and career goals.

  • The student must attach a full-length photograph of himself/herself in formal dress to the application.

  • The recipient must also attach a letter of recommendation on official school letterhead from an administrative official at his/her high school.

  • The student should then forward the application to his/her representative in the Georgia General Assembly to have Section C of the application completed.

Award Amount and Deadline:

The Organization is providing $7358 to scholarship eligible applicants every academic year.

All the documents mentioned above must be sent to the concerned department no later than 14th February 2020.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a legal resident of the state of Georgia.

  • The applicant must have received a nomination from a congressional district from a Georgia Legislator.

  • The applicant must have been accepted as a  regular UNG freshman Cadet.

  • The applicant must be eligible based on the Army National Guard enlistment criteria.

  • The applicant must have agreed to serve as a Georgia Army National Guard member along with the participation as a UNG Cadet.

  • The applicant must serve four years as an officer in the Georgia Army National Guard after graduation once the scholarship is received.
