About the Scholarship

Heinlein Society Scholarship is accredited by The Heinlein Society. The Heinlein Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, operated by unpaid volunteers, dedicated to Heinlein’s principle of Pay It Forward.

 Heinlein Society provides 3 scholarship y. The “Virginia Heinlein Memorial Scholarship” is dedicated to a female candidate studying in a STEM field. The other two scholarships (the Yoji Kondo and Jerry Pournelle scholarships) may be awarded to students of any gender, and add “Science Fiction as literature” as an eligible field of study.

What are the basic requirements needed while applying for this scholarship grant?

  • Applicants must complete the application form and submit it only in the PDF application form.

  • Candidates applying for this grant must demonstrate a brief explanation of career goals and biographical (background) information.

  • The understudies applying for this award must present a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application.

  • An essay must be submitted of 500 to 1,000 words listed on the application form.


Heinlein Society Scholarship award amounts to

  • This scholarship provides $2000 each year depending on the availability of funds which is non-renewable.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship is limited to 3 candidates each year.


Deadline info

The applications are to be presented before the end of March 15, 2020. Understudies are informed to present their grant application, and other requirements are to be submitted before the due date. Applications and other data are accessible online on The Heinlein Society website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for Bachelor of Science or Arts degree as a full-time undergraduate student.

  • The applicant must be pursuing a major in Science Fiction, Literature, Biological or Physical Sciences, Mathematics, or Engineering.

  • The applicant can be a resident of any country.
