About the Scholarship
Helen and Allen Brown Scholarship is governed and is sponsored by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry. The GBHEM works as the United Methodist Church’s leadership development center where they nurture and resource lay and clergy leaders around the world.
This program was started in connecting people with what they need to be principled Christian leaders who seek to better the world.
This scholarship is provided for racial-ethnic minority undergraduates who have been members of the UMC within the Nashville, Tenn., or New Orleans districts.
How to apply for this scholarship?
First-time users must create a username and password using a valid email address. This will be the way we communicate with you throughout the scholarship process.
An applicant must have email addresses for references. You will need your pastor to confirm church membership and a church reference who knows you well. References must submit their recommendations via a specific link and code generated from the application.
Obtain an unofficial copy of your transcript. You will be asked to upload a scanned version of your transcript with grades. In addition, a student will also be asked to submit their current resume.
DO NOT FORGET to apply on the last page of the application. You will need to scroll down to the bottom of the SAVE/SUBMIT page and hit the SUBMIT button.
Scholarship Amount and Deadline.
This scholarship amount ranges from $500 to $1000 and is non-renewable.
The total number of awards offered by this scholarship varies depending on the availability of funds and applications received.
The applications are to be presented before the finish of March 01, 2020. Understudies are informed to present their grant application and other requirements before the due date. Applications and other data are accessible online on the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry site.
An applicant must be a racial-ethnic minority undergraduate and be residing in the United States.
A candidate must be a member of UMC for at least three years within the Nashville, TN., or New Orleans, LA, Districts.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4 to be eligible for scholarship.
