About the Scholarship

Horatio Alger National Scholarship is accredited by Horatio Alger Association. The foundation was established in the year 1984, since then the Members and Friends have funded need-based college scholarships for low-income youth to pursue their dreams through higher education.  

The Horatio Alger Scholarship Programs mainly help secondary school understudies who have faced and defeated extraordinary obstacles in their young lives, and it is granted to qualified understudies in every one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.


What are the basic requirements needed while applying for this scholarship?

  • The understudies applying for this award must present a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to meet eligibility.

  • Must have been involved in co-curricular and community service activities.

  • Candidates are required to demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required)


Horatio Alger National Scholarship award amounts to

  • This scholarship award provides $25000 each year based on the availability of funds and the awards are non-renewable.

  • A total of 106 scholarships are awarded by this program depending on students maintaining their requirements.


Deadline info

The applications are to be presented before the end of October 25, 2020. Understudies are informed to present their grant application and other requirements are to be submitted before the due date. Applications and other data are accessible online on the Horatio Alger Association website.



Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a United States citizen.

  • The applicant must be a full-time high school senior student. 

  • The applicant must be enrolled in an accredited non-profit public or private university or college to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

  • The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or more.

  • The applicant must demonstrate a financial need and have a family income below $55,000.

  • The applicant must be an active participant in co-curricular activities and community service.

  • The applicant must have the perseverance and the integrity in overcoming adversity.
