About the Scholarship

Iowa's Matthew Shepard Scholarships is supported by The Eychaner Foundation. The Foundation is a non-benefit association focused on advancing acknowledgment and non-discrimination. This grant is given to understudies going to Iowa State University, the University of Iowa or the University of Northern Iowa.


What are the basic procedures needed while applying for this scholarship?

  • Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application must be submitted by the students applying for this grant.

  • Students applying for this grant must demonstrate financial need and Service to the LGBTQ community.

  • SAT/ACT scorecards must be submitted by the students.


Iowa's Matthew Shepard Scholarships award amounts to

  • This scholarship provides up to $13000.

  • The awards are renewable for up to 4 additional years, and the total number of awards offered by this scholarship varies depending on the availability of funds and students maintaining their academic records.


Deadline info

The applications are to be presented before the finish of March 01, 2020. Understudies are informed to present their grant application, and other requirements are to be submitted before the due date. Applications and other data are accessible online on the Eychaner Foundation site. 


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be attending, the University of Iowa, the University of Northern Iowa or Iowa State University.

  • The applicant must serve the LGBTQ community.

  • The applicant must produce financial need.

  • The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
