About the Scholarship

The Jacob Smaus SuperHero Scholarship is available to Nebraska residents enrolled in a college located anywhere in the United States or U.S. residents attending a college located in the state of Nebraska.  Applicants may be involved in community service on a volunteer-basis, non-profit organizational support or simply demonstrate acts of selflessness on a regular basis. Jake’s uplifting character is honored through this scholarship with the hopes of inspiring those whose actions impact others in need. Through this award program, the foundation looks forward to helping students meet their college expenses for years to come in honor of Jake’s memory. 

How to Apply for Scholarship?

  • Complete and submit our online application form which includes the following.

  • Provide one short essay in response to the following questions: What contributions have you made towards community service for the betterment of

    others? and  Why do you feel community service is important and how can your involvement positively impact others as well as your own life goals?.

  • Provide unofficial school transcripts and scorecards of the ACT/SAT exam to determine academic eligibility.

  • Applicants must give documented volunteer work that must show his/her involvement and community accomplishments.

Award Amount:

The Foundation is giving $1000 to one scholarship eligible applicant per annum.

All the above documents and official transcripts must be sent to the concerned financial aid before 1st June 2019. The applications after the deadline date will not be considered for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and a Nebraska resident.

  • The applicant must be enrolled in an accredited university, or vocational or technical school for a postsecondary educational program with the United States or Nebraska.

  • The applicant must not be a high school student.

  • The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or more.

  • The applicant must be an active participant in community service and other volunteer-based contributions.
