About the Scholarship

James A. Hyter Vocal Music Scholarship is accredited by the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis. The foundation was established in the year 1969 to strengthen our community through philanthropy.

James A. Hyter Vocal Music Scholarship provides college financial assistance to students with vocal talent and a love of music in memory of James A. Hyter.


How to apply for this scholarship program?

  • Students must have been completed their scholarship application form.

  • The candidates are educated to present their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to get this award.

  • Applicants must submit 2 letters of recommendation from teachers or family members.

  • Students are required to submit their SAR and EFC applications.

  • A copy of the ACT/SAT score is also to be submitted.


James A. Hyter Vocal Music Scholarship award amounts to

  • This scholarship amount varies each year depending on the availability of funds, the awards are non-renewable.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship also varies annually based on the students meeting their requirements.


Deadline info

The applications are to be presented before the end of April 02, 2020. Understudies are informed to present their grant application, and other requirements are to be submitted before the due date. Applications and other data are accessible online on the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be residing or enrolled in a college in the Memphis area.

  • The applicant must be planning to pursue a major in vocal studies in an accredited two-year or four-year university or college.

  • The applicant must be vocally talented with a passion for music.

  • The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

  • The applicant must submit the application form for the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis scholarship along with other required documents.
