About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the American Library Association, which is said to be the oldest and largest library association in the world. It works towards expanding library services in America and promoting the profession of librarianship. The LITA/LSSI Minority Scholarship is awarded every year and encourages qualified candidates into the library and automation field. This scholarship is for the study in an ALA Accredited MLS degree. There are three major factors that are considered while awarding this scholarship: academic performance, leadership qualities and commitment to a career in librarianship.
How to apply for the scholarship?
The applicant must complete the online application which can be found on the American Library Association site.
Along with the application, the applicant must also submit three references, official academic transcripts and FAFSA before the deadline date.
How much the scholarship award amounts to?
The award amounts to $2,500 per year and is non-renewable.
One award is offered per year.
The applicant must be a citizen of the United States or Canada.
Must plan to work in the library automation field.
Must pursue a Master of Library Science degree. Students may not have earned more than 12 semester hours towards a Master of Library Science degree by June 1 of the award year.
