About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the American Library Association, which is the oldest and largest library association in the world. It works to expand library services in America and to promote the profession of librarianship. The LITA/OLCC Minority Scholarship is awarded for students of an ALA-accredited MLA degree. It's designed to encourage qualified individuals into the library and automation field. The three major factors that are considered while selecting are academic performance, leadership qualities and commitment to a career in librarianship.
How to apply for the scholarship?
The applicant must complete the application that can be found on the American Library Association site.
Along with the application, the applicant must also submit three references, official academic transcripts, and FAFSA.
How much the scholarship award amounts to
The award amounts to $3,000 per year and is non-renewable.
One award is offered per year.
The applicant must be a citizen of the United States or Canada.
Must plan to work in the library automation field.
Must be a member of one of the following principal minority groups: American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian or Pacific Islander, African-American, or Hispanic.
