About the Scholarship

Luce Scholars Program is sponsored and is recognized by the Henry Luce Foundation. The foundation was established in the year 1936 by Henry R. Luce. It is a private non-profit corporation operating under the laws of the State of New York. The foundation provides financial assistance and leadership programs in the fields of religion and theology, art, and public policy.

The Luce Scholars Program is a broadly competitive cooperation program it appeared in 1974 to improve the understanding of Asia among potential pioneers in American culture. The program gives stipends, language preparing, and individualized proficient situation in Asia for 15-18 Luce Scholars every year, and invites applications from school seniors, graduate understudies, and youthful experts in an assortment of fields who have had constrained introduction to Asia.


How to apply for this scholarship?

  • Every candidate must initially be designated by one of the 75 schools or colleges taking an interest in the program. 

  • An interview with every candidate will be held in the month of November/December either face to face or by means of skype or phone.

  • The candidates are educated to present their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to determine the financial position of a student's family to pay for their education.

  • 4 letters of recommendation - letters should represent a range of academic and professional references.


Scholarship Award Amount

  • This scholarship award amount varies depending on the availability of funds and students maintaining their academic progress.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship is limited to 18 candidates each year based on the total number of applications received.


Deadline Information

All the required documents and application forms must be sent to the concerned department on or before the date mentioned on the official website. The deadline for the same is yet to be finalized by the Henry Luce Foundation. Students are advised to keep track of the website and submit the documents in advance. Any application sent post the mentioned deadline will be disqualified.


Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant must have the physical health to work in a foreign environment.

  • A student must have acquired a bachelor's degree by the time of application.

  • A candidate must be a U.S. citizen under the age of 30.

  • To be eligible for the scholarship, a recipient must-have good academic standing and be involved in various community services.

  • The applicant must have leadership qualities and an ambition to pursue a professional career.
