About the Scholarship

Maximum Independence Scholarship is established by the Goodwill Industries of Southwest Oklahoma and North Texas, Inc to help and overcome the financial need of a student to pursue higher education.

The organization's mission is to help and support students with disabilities and disadvantages to achieve maximum independence.

The scholarship award helps the people to overcome their financial burden to achieve their academic goals. The fund amount can cover the cost of tuition fees and book towards a student's academics.


What is the application process?

  • To be eligible for the scholarship program, all applicants must fill and submit the scholarship application form to the concerned financial aid department before the deadline. 

  • Applicants must provide a copy of his/her high school transcript to demonstrate their excellence in academics.

  • In addition to that, One-page personal statement explaining his/her interests, family background, plan of study, why you want to further your education, and what this scholarship means to you.

  • A letter from the applicant’s Community Service supervisor, providing proof of the full 15 volunteer or community service hours. This letter must be a one‐page typed document and state the name of the organization, the type of community service performed, a review of work performed, when it was performed, and the supervisor’s contact information.

  • Two letters of reference must be submitted, one must be personal and another must indicate academic performance.

  • For consideration as a disabled applicant, he/she must provide proof of disability from a recognized state, federal, or medical/psychological authority, in addition to the above-mentioned documents. 

  • To determine the financial need, applicants must fill out the FAFSA application form that determines how much a student's family can pay for the education.


Award Amount and Deadline

The scholarship award amounts to $1000 to all eligible applicants every academic year.

All the documents mentioned above must be sent to the concerned department no later than March 30, 2020, to be eligible to receive the scholarship fund. Students applying for the scholarship must keep track of the deadlines as any application sent post deadline will be rejected.



Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates will be awarded the scholarship in the spring to high school seniors.

  • Applicants must be legal residents of the U.S.

  • A student must be able to attend GoodwillSONT's Annual Banquet in Lawton and be able to take a tour of its facilities.

  • An applicant must be enrolled as the first time student in a technical/trade school or college.

  • A recipient must be a high school senior within the Goodwill Industries.
