About the Scholarship

New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority sponsors the New Jersey Survivor Tuition Benefits Program. The foundation was established by State legislation in 1959, it was started with a mission of giving students and families with financial assistance and ideas in their education and with their career beyong high school.


What are the basic requirements needed to apply for this scholarship?

  • Students applying for this scholarship must have been completed their FAFSA application to receive or apply for this scholarship.

  • Students must submit their current official transcript and must have maintained their ACT/SAT scorecards up to the reach.

 

New Jersey Survivor Tuition Benefits Program award amounts to

  • This scholarship program grant provides free tuition at the recipient's post-secondary institution.

  • The award amount cannot exceed the highest tuition charged at a New Jersey public institution. Awards are renewable. Scholarships depend on available funding.

  • The award varies around $6174 annually.

  • The number of awards offered by this scholarship program varies every year based on the availability of funds and students' requirements.

 

Deadline information

The applications are to be submitted by the end of March 01, 2020. Applications and other informations are available on the New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be spouse or child of NJ firefighter, emergency service worker or law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty.

  • Eligibility is limited to eight years from the date of the child's high school graduation and eight years from the date of death for the spouse. 

  • Applicants must be registered with Selective Service.

  • The applicant should maintain satisfactory academic progress.

  • The applicant should not have received the maximum number of payments.
