About the Scholarship

This Scholarship program is awarded and is sponsored by the “NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund Provides”.

In the year 1978, the NRA Board of Directors set up the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund to engage in court cases establishing legal precedents in favor of gun owners.

This scholarship contest is open to all students who have not been awarded a prize before. Essays on originality, scholarship, and presentation will be judged.

The NRACRDF will pick the winners of the essay contest and will be informed early next year. Winners must post their names in' Insights’ and one of the official newspapers.


How to apply for this Scholarship?

  • A candidate must first the application form that can be found on the official NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund (NRACRDF) website.

  • To enter the scholarship competition, students must write an essay on the competition subject listed on the website of the provider.

  • The entry of the applicant must meet the following guidelines: approximately 1,000 characters, clean, and readable (preferred to be double-spaced and typed).

  • The applicant should contact the provider in order to request further information and/or a list of scholarly references to help in the writing process.

  • His/her name, age, address, telephone number, school, and grade should also be included in the essay.

  • Additionally, a student must also submit a statement from a teacher or parent that the paper is the original work of the applicant.

  • The candidate’s entry form, essay, and statement of the parent/teacher must be submitted to the address provided and postmarked by the date of the entry.


What is the scholarship award amount?

The award amount for this will be in the form of US savings bonds, and the awards are as the following

  • The first prize is $1,000.

  • The second prize is $600.

  • Third prize is $200 and,

  • Final honorable mention is $100.

Essays will be judged in two categories: senior (grades 10 to 12) and junior (grades 9 and below), with separate prizes awarded in each category to the winners.


Deadline for the scholarship

All the documents mentioned above must be sent to the concerned department of the organization on or before the end of December 31, 2019, to be eligible for the scholarship. 

Any delay in submitting an application form by a student will lead to disqualification.


Eligibility Criteria

A candidate must fulfill the following eligibility criteria to receive the scholarship award amount:

  • An applicant must be a legally recognized citizen of the United States or an eligible non-US citizen.

  • The scholarship contest is open to all students who are enrolled in a junior high school, or elementary to be eligible for the scholarship.

  • Those who haven't received the award amount before are eligible.
