About the Scholarship

The Nursing Education Loan/Scholarship RN to BSN (NELR) is awarded by the Mississippi Office of student financial aid to promote nursing education in order to overcome the shortage of the production of nurses in the state of Mississippi. The scholarship is made available to the students who undergo a bachelor's degree in the field of nursing at one Mississippi institution of higher education. Later nursing graduates are converted to professional employees of nursing.


How to Apply for Scholarship?

  • An applicant must complete the online application in order to apply for this scholarship award.

  • New applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from school or college showing full-time enrollment, date of admission in nursing education at an accredited college in the state of Mississippi.

  • In addition to that, a new applicant must give a current Mississippi nursing license.

  • All applicants need to submit two forms of residency documentation. It must be a document of FAFSA and Mississippi driver’s license.

  • If an applicant does not have the above-mentioned residency documentation, he/she can submit Voter Registration, Vehicle Registration, Homestead Exemption, State Tax Return documents.


Award Amount and Deadline:

The Organization is awarding $4,000 per year to the number of qualified applicants. The award can be renewable. 

All the official transcripts and documents needed for a scholarship are submitted no later than April 30.


Eligibility Criteria

  • A student should hold a current Mississippi nursing license.

  • A student should be classified as a Junior or Senior undergraduate student for the upcoming school year.

  • The recipient should be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for one year prior to application.

  • A student should enroll full-time or part-time at an eligible accredited School of Nursing.

  • A student should earn a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher 0n a 4.0 scale each semester/trimester to maintain eligibility.

  • A student should not currently in default or delinquent on any federal, state, or local educational loan.
