About the Scholarship
Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry is awarded by Nimrod International Journal of Prose and Poetry. Nimrod was established in the yeat 1956 at The University of Tusla with a mission of discovery, development, and promoting of new writing.
The award is published twice a year and features the best new poetry, short fiction, and creative nonfiction. The award supports and defends the literary tradition of small magazines, spotlighting lesser-known poets and writers and providing foundations for their literary careers.
What is the application procedure?
Each student must submit one long poem or a series of poems that of 3 to 10 pages in length with a cover sheet containing a major title(s), author's name, phone, full address, and email.
"Contest Entry" should be indicated on both the outer envelope and the cover sheet.
Each submission must include a $20 entry fee (this includes a one-year subscription for two issues of the Nimrod International Journal).
Multiple submissions must be sent in separate envelopes. Entries may be mailed to Nimrod or submitted online.
No previously published works or works accepted for publication elsewhere. The author's name must not appear on the manuscript. Nimrod retains the right to publish any submission. If a student would like to be mailed the results of the contest, he/she must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with his/her submission. The results will also be posted on the Nimrod website.
Award Amount/Scholarship Amount
The Awards offers first prizes of $2000 and publication on Nimrod International Journal and second prizes of $1000 and publication.
The winners also got a chance to visit Tulsa for The Awards Ceremony and Writing Conference in October. All the finalists will be contemplated for publication.
All the necessary documents along with the application form must be sent to the concerned department on or before the end date of April 01, 2020.
Any late submission will not be considered and will be disqualified.
A candidate must be interested and be passionate about writing poetry.
An applicant must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
This award is for both United States students and eligible non-US citizens.
Submitters do not have to be U.S Citizens but must be living in the U.S in October of 2020 to enter the contest.
