About the Scholarship

The high school and college students who are passionate about photography and are interested in pursuing it as a career are provided financial assistance through scholarship programs by the James Alan Cox Foundation known as the James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists.

The scholarship is awarded in the memory of television photojournalist, James Alan Cox, to help and encourage the young photographers to pursue a successful career and realize their dreams without having to face any financial obstacles.


The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists Awards

  • The scholarship amount received by the students is used to fund the expenses related to equipment as well as educational expenses.

  • The amount is directly sent to the educational institution the recipient is studying in.

  • In the high school level, 5 students are awarded Digital Cameras each.

  • The organization awards 5 students from college or technical schools (4 awards for video works and 1 award for still photography) an amount of $2500.

  • One graduate student is awarded $2500 for video work.


The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists Application

  • The applicants for the scholarship must be pursuing a course program related to the field of photography and journalism.

  • The applicants are expected to submit works based on the theme ‘Photojournalism’ and the entries made by the applicants must ‘tell a story’ in order to be selected as a recipient.

  • The recipients of the scholarship are selected based on their entries and the eligibility criteria.

  • The applicant must complete the online application form that is available on the official website of the organization.

  • The students are advised to go through the instructions and guidelines given by the sponsor at the time of application.


The James Alan Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists Application Deadline

The scholarship application process commences on July 15th, 2019 and ends on November 15th, 2019. No entries or applications will be accepted past the deadline.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The student must be a sophomore or older in an accredited high school and should have taken at least one class in photography or related art.

  • The student must be a sophomore or older in the recognized institution or professional school and should have done courses in photography or photojournalism.

  • The graduate students must be enrolled in a journalism or photojournalism program.
