About the Scholarship

The Melanie Foundation Scholarship is certified by The Melanie Foundation. The Melanie Foundation was established in 2006 to respect the life and heritage of Melanie Merola O'Donnell, with the strategic encourage support for psychological well-being issues. Since 2009, The Melanie Foundation has granted a scholarship in her name to an exceptional postgraduate understudy in the field of emotional wellness.


How to apply for this scholarship?

  • The students applying for this scholarship must have been completed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to receive this award.

  • Two letters of reference supporting the candidate’s application form from adults who have known the candidate for more than 1 year (at least one from a professional in the mental health field, another from an individual who has known the candidate for 5 years or more). 

  • Unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and/or graduate). Official transcripts must be provided by the candidates applying for this grant.


The Melanie Foundation Scholarship award amounts to

  • This scholarship provides a $2,500 scholarship to a candidate pursuing a doctoral or master’s degree in the mental health field.

  • The scholarship will be awarded to a candidate for one year. Candidates may reapply for additional years.


Deadline information

The applications are to be submitted by the end of June 30, 2020. Students are informed to submit their scholarship application and other requirements are to be submitted before the due date. Applications and other information are available online from The Melanie Foundation website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be enrolled in a graduate program in the mental health field in the U.S.

  • The student should be enrolled in academic programs accredited by ACGME, APA, CACREP, CSWE, or COAMFTE.

  • The student should present proof of past extracurricular, volunteer, research, and/or career-related activities.
