Transfer Scholarships are a type of financial rewards offered to help college students who transfer from one college to another for certain reasons. According to the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, more than one-third of college students transfer to another college. Some students may be transferring from one four year college to another. Other students may be transferring from a two-year college to a four-year college.

Nowadays transferring from one college to another has become quite common. The best part is,  there are many college scholarships available to transfer students to pay for college education through these scholarships are widely for transfer students who intend to transfer to four-year colleges or universities.

What are Transfer Scholarships?

A transfer scholarship is a form of grant given to students who transfer from one college to another. There are many institutions that provide grants to these students. 

Whether you're finishing a four-year course or transferring from community college, or just looking for a new school, there are many transfer scholarships available to assist in the financial costs of the transition. In fact, there are state aid programs for in-state students who demonstrate high levels of academic achievement and choose to study in their own state. 

Eligibility Criteria to apply for Transfer Scholarships

There are some basic eligibility criteria that one needs to fulfill in order to be eligible for a transfer scholarship. Though you will find a lot of variation in these criteria as you will search for specific universities and colleges but these are few generic criteria which more or less will be the same. 

  • One must be a U.S. citizen.

  • One must have completed two years (4 semesters) of full-time college coursework at another institution. 

  • One must have a minimum GPA of 2.0

  • One must fulfill Criteria for transfer admission along with specific course requirements through successful completion of the required coursework is not a guarantee of admission.

  • One must have completed prerequisite coursework with a grade of C (2.0) or better.

  • GPA requirements vary across academic colleges; some academic colleges may have higher GPA requirements.

  • Not all majors are open to transfer students, and this information is outlined when applicable.

There are certain sources through which you can get information for a scholarship. So here are a few sources you can make use of while applying for a scholarship.

  • a high school or TRIO counselor

  • the U.S. Department of Labor’s FREE scholarship search tool

  • federal agencies

  • your state grant agency

  • your library’s reference section

  • foundations, religious or community organizations, local businesses, or civic groups

  • organizations (including professional associations) related to your field of interest

  • ethnicity-based organizations

  • your employer or your parents’ employers
