About the Scholarship

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Visual Arts and Art History Fellowships is supported by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The association was begun in the year 1940, since then it has been an indispensable vital source of financing for art and art history students as professional artists. The primary point of this grant is to cultivate the innovative endeavors of Virginia's best specialists and most encouraging art students, and thereby, promote artistic life in the Commonwealth.

How to apply for this scholarship grant?

  • The students applying for this grant must have been completed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to receive this award

  • The applicant must demonstrate artistic ability to meet eligibility.

  • Eight images of artistic work or three film/video must be provided by the student.

  • All submissions must be within one discipline.

  • Applicants cannot submit works that are of different disciplines, i.e. cannot submit both photography and paintings, or both films and sculptures.

  • This scholarship provides around $2000 to $8000 annually and is non-renewable.

  • The total number of awards offered by this scholarship varies annually depending on the availability of funds and students meeting their eligibility.


Deadline information

The applications are to be submitted by the end of November 02, 2020. Students are informed to submit their scholarship applications and other requirements before the due date. Applications and other related information are available online on the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts website.

Eligibility Criteria

  •  The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.
  • The student must have been a permanent resident of Virginia 2 years prior to the application.

  • The applicant must remain a resident of Virginia for the Fellowship period.

  • The student cannot enroll for degree courses during the period of the Fellowship.
