About the Scholarship

West Virginia Higher Education Grant Program is supported by the College Foundation of West Virginia. The West Virginia Higher Education Grant is a need-based financial guide program intended to guarantee West Virginia understudies with money related needs are allowed to seek after post-secondary education.

How to apply for this scholarship?

  • The students applying for this grant must have been completed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application to receive this scholarship.

  • Students must demonstrate academic promise.

  • Enroll at a participating institution in West Virginia or Pennsylvania as a full-time undergraduate student.

  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need to receive this award.


Award Amount

  • This scholarship amount varies every year depending on some factors such as the financial need of applicants and available funding. The maximum annual awards for 2018-19 was $2,700. 

  • The number of awards offered varies annually and depends on the total number of applications of received.


Deadline Information

All the documents and applications must be submitted to the institution no later than April 15, 2020. Students are informed to submit their scholarship application and other requirements before the due date. Applications and other information are available from the College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV) website.


Eligibility Criteria

  • The student must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen.

  • The applicant must have been a resident of West Virginia one year prior to the application date.

  • The student must be a graduate of high school or have a TASC or its equivalent certificate.

  • The student should display financial need.

  • The student should not hold a previously earned bachelor's degree.
