Technical requirements for Online Education

Online learning is one of the greatest revolutions in the field of education recently.

This brought about a huge change in the system and also paved the path for everyone to pursue what they want, wherever they want from any part of the world.

Thus, truly making it possible that education is for everybody.

There are people who are opting for online colleges for the various factors that are attached to it.

But, for pursuing a course of online education apart from the knowledge aspect there are few technical requirements like computer and internet minimum specifications etc.


Computer and Internet Connection

Most of the online colleges have an almost same type of technical requirements unless you are going for specialized courses where the specifications might be different.

But for a regular course the requirements are:

  • You will want regular access to a laptop or PC with an internet connection.

  • High-speed broadband access (LAN, Cable or DSL) is extremely recommended for the optimum learning experience.

A Macintosh, Laptop or PC system with these minimum requirements:

PC

  • Compatible Operating System: Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1

  • Web Browser: Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer 10 or higher

Mac

  • Compatible Operating System: OS X

  • Web Browser: Firefox, Chrome, Safari


Email

  • A valid email address, which is checked frequently, would be required.

  • Most of the colleges provide a University supplied email address which is our preferred and recommended option.

  • This will help you avoid issues with Spam blockers and other problems that may prevent you from receiving an email from your professors.


Software

  • Many courses may have additional software requirements, which may include video or audio playing software or a specific software application.

  • Most courses would also require word processing software.

  • In some instances, it may be necessary for some users to upgrade their Flash or Java versions. 

  • In these cases, the college will tell prior to the start of the course. So that you can have enough time to make the required arrangements.


Other Devices

  • Depending on the University and the way the course is being delivered, you may access and interact with most course elements, readings, multimedia, email and discussions through tablets and smartphones.

  • But they are not guaranteed to work in all areas.

  • Make sure you have a PC or Mac based computer available to complete coursework.


Conclusion

Online courses and degree programs are more convenient and cheaper than their counterparts in traditional education. But these were some requirements that have to be fulfilled in order to go for any type of online course.
