Temple University, referred to as Temple or TU, is a research public university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The university was founded in 1884 by the Baptist minister Russell Conwell and was renamed the Temple College of Philadelphia. In 1907, the institution revised its status and incorporated it as a university.

The main campus is in North Philadelphia, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Center City. It occupies 163.58 acres at present. The university holds various other campuses even on international borders. The motto of the university is “Perseverantia Vincit” which means “Perseverance Conquers”.

The school runs a variety of research centers and institutes, including the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute, the Center for Sustainable Communities and the Center for Asian Health.
