About

Troy University is a public institute which opened its doors on February 26th, 1887 with the name Troy State School. In 1893, the name of it changed to Troy State Normal College. At the beginning, the intention of opening the institution was to train teachers for Alabama’s schools.

On December 14th, 1967 the institution got a university status and changed its name to Troy State University and after 8 years, the university opened a new branch in Dothan.

In 2004, the majority voted to drop state in its name and changed its name to Troy University so that it gives the unified sense of naming.

The university has dedicated itself to promote discovery and exploration of knowledge and its applications and its life-long success through effective teaching, service, creative partnerships, relating research with study and financial support. The university believes understanding and exploration of knowledge gives applicable results.
