About

University of California, Irvine (UCI) is a public university located in Irvine, California. The present campus was once an underdeveloped Irvine Ranch Meadow.GThe university's first Chancellor was Daniel D Aldrich, who then warmed to the idea of creating an institution from scratch. By 1979, the student enrollment consisted f a population from over across the state and around the world. In 1995, three professors of the university received Nobel prizes in Physics and Chemistry.

In 1996, the university became a part of the American Universities and hence became the youngest university to receive that honor. Later in 2004, Prof.IrwIN Rose received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. For the years 2017-2018, the university was named as a Hispanic Institution by the U.S Department of Education, as one-quarter of the undergraduates were identified as Latino and almost half of the student population received financial aid. 

The university began with a mission to enhance learning and growth based on dedicated public service with cutting-edge technologies. The staff and students together contribute to the growth of the institution today. The official Mascot of the university was chosen as  Peter, the AntEater, on November 30, 1965.
