John Bullock was the founding father of the Widener University. Back then the University was named as Bullock school for boys, where the young men were prepared to take an entry to college and then lead to success in their life.

The University has changed its name several times over a period of years, but the motto always remained same. Alsop school for boys was the name given by Samuel Alsop, back then who was the headmaster of the school in the year 1846. The school name was then changed to reflect the new leadership. After that in the year 1853, Theodore Hyatt renamed it as Hyatt’s select school for boys where he purchased the school from Alsop. After that in the year 1858, he introduced military discipline in the school. Later Delaware Military Academy (DMA) was the new given to the Institution. Under the charter of Wilmington Literary Institute, the Delaware military academy was incorporated in the year 1859 and graduated a legacy of honorable military leaders who successfully defended a strategic position at the battle of Corinth in Mississippi.

Delaware military academy changed its name to Pennsylvania military academy in the year 1862 when the school moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania which is an abolitionist friendly-state at that time. Colonel George Patten, a civil war veteran started civil engineering curriculum where he saw the value of engineering in the nation which would develop the economy of the state. In the year 1972, Widener College was named for the Widener family of Philadelphia. The Delaware law school was acquired by the Widener college in the year 1975.

Now, the widener school of law incorporated the Wilmington, Delaware campus of Brandywine College. The college continued to grow from the year 1979 where the widener college became Widener University. The University has become a respectful legacy as they stood by their core values where they strived in preparing young men and young women to become citizens of good character, skilled and effective leaders in the global society. After 200 years, today Widener University has stood in the good and a right place in global society by making their students, powerful patriotic citizens of the country. The Middle East association of colleges and schools has accredited the Widener University, which is recognized by the U.S Secretary of education and the council on higher education. Widener University Admissions

Widener University is one of the renowned University in the world which is offering online Undergraduate and graduate programs. There are many criteria’s given by the Widener University in order to get admission to a particular program. The students applying for this college must first get pass through eligibility criteria given by the University. The students who are applying for Masters in business Administration (MBA) and Masters in social work (MSW) must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited University. An associate degree and a registered nurse license are required for RN to BSN candidates.

For any University admission, there is always an eligibility criterion for GPA in the degree education. So it is required by the student to fulfill the noted eligibility criteria by the University in order to seek admission in the particular university. In the same way, the Widener University has also kept a GPA criteria i.e. for the students who are applying for online MBA courses the students must have a minimum of 2.7 GPA in their undergraduate education.For the MSW programs, the candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 in their undergraduate years. The students who have a GPA less than 3.0 is also given the admission under certain conditions that the candidate must show the potential to successfully complete the program with distinction.

The students who have applied for the admission are requested to take the campus visits.

  • Give the Secondary School Report to the principal or guidance counselor at your school.
  • Take the necessary College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) tests and have the results sent to Widener.

The students are advised to complete their senior year of secondary school rather than bypassing it in favor of early admission to college. The university invites the matriculation of students from other nations and is authorized under federal law to issue SEVIS form I-20 for visa application. A specific “International Student Application” is provided electronically for use by all international applicants, including those who have completed their secondary education in the United States. After the Application process, the students who are selected must immediately submit the following items for the consideration of the online programs at the widener university:-

  • Candidates have to complete the application form.
  • Statement of purpose (MBA & MSW only): An MBA requires a brief summary of why you want to enroll and MSW requires a four and six double-spaced page document on personal background, career objectives and personal evaluation. Please ask your Program Manager for full details on what each program requires.
  • Two letters of recommendations (MBA & MSW only) – MSW candidates who have completed their undergraduate degrees within the last six years must submit one academic reference letter.
  • Official college transcripts from each school you’ve attended.

RN-to-BSN candidates must reach out to a Program Manager to complete a credit evaluation. This will allow us to determine if you meet all of Widener’s pre-requisites and will help you plan accordingly.
