Wilkes University is a private not-for-profit university which is located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, United States. The university was established in the year 1933 as a branch of the Bucknell University, and later in the year 1947, it became an independent institution under the name Wilkes College which was named after John Wilkes. The university got its current name in the year 1990 after being granted the university status.
