About the Scholarship

The John L. Carey Scholarship Award was established by members of the accounting profession to honor John Carey upon his retirement from the AICPA in 1969.  Award is part of the AICPA Legacy Scholars Program. The award provides financial assistance to liberal arts and non-business degree holders who are pursuing both graduate studies in accounting and the CPA licensure. The scholarship award is intended to encourage students with little or no previous accounting education to consider professional accounting careers.


How to Apply for Scholarship?

  • The scholarship applications must be completed and submitted by the deadline to be considered for this award.

  • The award is given based on the financial need. Hence all applicants must demonstrate the financial status of their family in order to receive this fund.

  • Candidates are also required to give proof of acceptance to graduate study.

  • In addition to that, all applicants must demonstrate their academic performance by submitting their official scorecards.


Award Amount and Deadline:

The organization is funding $3000 to $5000 through this scholarship award and it is renewable.

The deadline date for this scholarship is 1st March 2020. Hence all applicants are required to submit their online application and official transcripts on or before the given deadline date.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Obtained liberal arts or another non-business undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States prior to enrolling in a graduate accounting program.

  • Not earned more than 12 credits in accounting or business during his/her undergraduate program.

  • Not actively participating in a graduate accounting program.

  • Planning to pursue a graduate-level degree in accounting or an accounting-related major beginning in the fall of the 2020-21 academic year.

  • Planning to pursue the CPA licensure but not presently be a CPA.

  • Enrolled in a business and/or accounting program that is regionally, nationally or internationally accredited for the full 2020-21 academic year.
