About the Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded by the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, a tax-exempt organization that helps individuals, families, businesses, and agencies support charitable causes throughout Chelan, Douglas, and Okanogan counties. Through their Community Grants Program, nonprofit organizations can apply for financial support to continue to do the work that enhances our communities. The grant was named to honor the memory of Alex O. Santillanes who, among many other positive things, established a group that collaborated with gang leaders to declare Barrios Unidos a safe place for the youth. The selection for the grant will be done based on factors including academic performance, recommendations, and financial need.
