About the Scholarship

Steve Parsons created this scholarship for queer community arts and humanities students living in Kitsap / Bainbridge Island (preferred) areas.

The scholarship is awarded by Pride Foundation and was established more than 30 years ago to bring justice for LGBTQ community and fundamentally transform our work to centre racial equity.


How to apply?

  • All applications must be submitted online.

  • The individual must be a resident of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington but can study elsewhere. 

  • Applicants must be pursuing post-secondary education which includes a community college, four-year public or private college or university, certificates or diploma program, etc

  • If selected, students are required to bring a transcript.

  • Students must be members of the LGBTQ and allied community.

  • Students must submit the following: Contact information for two references, one should be a teacher, counsellor or another academic representative who are familiar with her capabilities and potential.

  • Applicants are required to answer six essay questions on topics of educational goals, career goals, activities, challenges and a quote (limited to 5000 characters).


Scholarship amount and Deadline:

The scholarship amount awarded typically range between $500 to $12,000 annually and are non-renewable. The average amount awarded last year was $4,160.

The deadline for the application is Friday, 10th January 2020.

 


Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant should be a resident of one of the following states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Alaska, in order to avail the scholarship.

  • The applicants should be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

  • The applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of application.

  • The applicant must have a medical disability.

  • Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as a straight ally dedicated to LGBT causes.

  • This award is for U.S. students only.
