About the Scholarship

SWE is started awarding Dorothy M. & Earl S. Hoffman Scholarship from the year 1999. The scholarship is aimed to help and support women pursuing ABET-accredited bachelor or graduate degree programs in majors such as engineering, engineering technology and computer science in the United States. In order to receive this award benefits, an applicant must take admission to Bucknell University or Rensselaer Polytechnic University and must maintain a minimum grade point average as specified by the financial aid division of the institution.

How to apply for this scholarship?

  • An applicant must first fill in the form that is found at the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) website which is available from March 1 to May 1.

  • In addition to that, an applicant must provide current official transcripts of the school where he/she is attending.

  • Also, an applicant must give an acceptance letter to an accredited ABET college or university as well as a resume in order to receive this fund.

  • All students are required to give two letters of recommendation, where the letter must include a student's information and contact details.

  • One recommendation letter must be taken from his/her college professor and another from a person who knows the student for at least years and who is not a member of a family.

Award Amount and Deadline:

The SWE award amounts to $3000 and is renewable up to three additional years of an applicant's graduate study. The total number of awards provided varies and depends on the applications received.

The Scholarship deadline date is fixed on 1st May 2019. Hence, all applicants must apply and send the scholarship required documents before the given deadline.

Eligibility Criteria

  • A student must be a registered graduate student in an accredited academic institution.

  • A student must attend Bucknell University or Rensselaer Polytechnic University.

  • The recipient should maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher out of 4 to be eligible for the scholarship.

  • Applicants must enroll in a program accredited by ABET.
