The Generation Google Scholarship for Women in Computer Science is a $10,000 scholarship for women pursuing computer science, computer engineering, or related technical degrees. In 2026, Google awards approximately 50-60 Generation Google Scholarships annually across the US/Canada region. The award is renewable for one additional year (so total potential value: $20,000) for scholars maintaining the academic and program criteria.
Applications close December 1, 2026 for the 2026-27 academic year. Eligibility requires (1) identifies as a woman, (2) U.S. or Canada permanent resident OR enrolled at a U.S./Canadian university, (3) enrolled full-time in a Bachelor's or graduate program in CS, CE, or related field, (4) 3.5+ GPA. The application is short (about 90 minutes total) but quality matters: the technical essay asks "describe a CS project you're particularly proud of" and the leadership essay asks how the applicant has contributed to expanding diversity in tech. Successful applicants demonstrate concrete CS work + concrete diversity advocacy (founded a Girls Who Code chapter, organized a women-in-tech panel at school, etc.).
Google's intent with this program is direct talent development — recipients are invited to Google's annual Computer Science Summit (multi-day event at Google HQ with senior engineers and recruiters), receive priority access to Google Step Internships and Engineering Practicum interviews, and gain a Google mentor for one academic year. Conversion rate from Generation Google → Google internship is approximately 35-45%, dramatically higher than cold application. For women pursuing CS, this scholarship is one of the top 3 entry points to a Google career trajectory.
