About the Scholarship

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta sponsors George and Pearl Strickland Scholarship. The Foundation was started int he year 1951. The Community Foundation is committed to improving the quality of life right here in the 23-county Atlanta metro area.

George and Pearl right from the beginning were striving to help friends and family pursue the education of their interest by helping them financially. A dream of investing in the students at the University of Atlanta continues even after her death. The George and Pearl Strickland Scholarship Fund is reserved to assist Georgia graduates and undergraduates who are attending programs at Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine, Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University.

Steps for applying for the scholarship

  • It is not mandatory for a student to fill the FAFSA form as the admission application will be used to asses the recipient’s eligibility criteria and financial position to pay for their education.

  • Eligible students must demonstrate financial need and the potential for success in their chosen major or the subject.

  • Scholarships are granted on a nondiscriminatory basis after careful review and examining of eligible candidates.

  • The students who are applying for this scholarship must demonstrate a commitment to community service and have a good leadership skills.

How much is the scholarship amounts to?

  • The organization provides $2000 annually for the students meeting their eligibility criteria, and it is not renewable for those students who have already applied to this scholarship before.

  • Every year around 30 scholarships are awarded to the eligible students.

  • Awards are endorsed by The Community Foundation's Board of Directors.

Deadline and info

The applications must be submitted by the end of February 15, 2020. A candidate can find the application on the official website of the CFGA.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Legal resident of Georgia

  • Enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Morehouse School of Medicine or Spelman College

  • Demonstrated financial need

  • Potential for success in chosen field

  • Commitment to community service

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA

  • Previous recipients are encouraged to reapply, but must obtain and submit the current year’s application form

  • Previous recipients are not guaranteed additional awards
