About the Scholarship
Horatio Alger New York Scholarship Program encourages students in New York State who aspire to pursue higher education in spite of facing adversities and financial crisis.
The student must plan to enroll in college before the fall following high school graduation. Besides consistent academic progress, the student must demonstrate active participation in co-curricular and community activities.
Horatio Alger New York Scholarship Application and Award amount
The Scholarship program, funded by Horatio Alger Association, aims to support students who exhibit a strong commitment and perseverance to pursue a bachelors degree at an accredited institution and pursue postsecondary education.
Initially, the applicant may begin higher studies at a two-year institution and then later transfer to a four-year institution.
The total value of this Horatio Alger New York Scholarship award is $10,000 which is paid in annual installments.
To receive guaranteed funding for the entire 5 years of their undergraduate degree, it is essential that the awardee students maintain a grade point average or GPA of 2.0 or higher. The Scholarship Program offers around 20 awards on an annual basis.
Horatio Alger New York Scholarship application
In order to avail the scholarship, the applicant must submit the scholarship application available online at the Horatio Alger Association website.
It is mandatory for applicants to submit an online application as paper applications are not accepted.
Provide a copy of your parent/guardian most recent individual federal tax return.
In case the applicant's parent/guardian is not required to file a tax return, it is necessary to include statement copies of any government benefits, for instance, food stamps or public assistance documents.
Horatio Alger New York Scholarship deadlines - The online application and supporting materials must be submitted before October 25, 2019. The results of the scholarship are declared in the month of January.
The student must be a U.S. citizen.
The applicant should demonstrate financial need.
The student should be enrolled full-time as a high school senior in the U.S.
- The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.
