About the Scholarship

The KASF Northeastern Region Scholarship is offered to the qualified Korean American students. In order to be the recipient of this award, All applicants must be enrolled in a full-time program in the U.S during the scholarship application year. If extra funds are available, other students may qualify for scholarships. Specifically, descendants of American veterans served during the Korean War may qualify for scholarships. Recipients for this award are selected on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, school activities, and community services.


 How to Apply for Scholarship?

  • Applications are available on the Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF) website and will be accepted after April 1.

  • In addition to a completed application, the student must submit a self-addressed envelope, his/her parents' tax return(s) and his/her tax return an essay in English or Korean of 500 words or less on one of the two topics listed on the application, as appropriate for his/her application status.

  • Additionally, he/she must provide an official transcript of school or college where he/she is studying in.

  • Also, an applicant is required to submit two letters of recommendation from faculty members who best know his/her academic qualifications, including academic performance, potential, and motivation sent directly to the KASF Regional Chapter office and a copy of his/her SAR.

  • The SAR is generated by filing the FAFSA. The FAFSA can be obtained online and in high school guidance offices or in college financial aid offices. All applicants must fill this form to demonstrate their financial status.


Award Amount and Deadline:

The scholarship award amounts to $5000 available to any number of applicants per academic year. And it is non-renewable.

The deadline date for this scholarship is 30th June 2019. Hence all applicants are required to submit the above mentioned official transcripts on or before the last date.

 


Eligibility Criteria

  • An applicant must be a full-time student.

  • A recipient must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award and must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program during the entire academic year for which he/she wishes to receive funding.

  • A candidate must be a Korean American student.

  • A recipient must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

  • A student must be enrolled at a college, graduate or professional school located within the northeastern region of the United States as determined by the Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF). 

  • A candidate must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher
